Candidates must be the citizen of India. Those who have immigrated with an intention to permanently stay in India can appear only if they have been issued a certificate of eligibility in their name. He/she must have passed in the first or second division the Intermediate or an equivalent examination of a university or board approved by the government of India with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

The applications can be filled online. The willing and eligible candidates can apply online using the UPSC website. All the information regarding the application is mentioned on the website.

Candidates must be minimum 17 years or maximum 21 years of age as on January 1, 2015. The age is relaxed up to a maximum of five years for candidates belonging to SC/ST classes, and three years for those belonging to OBC class.

All the candidates (except Females/SC/ST/PH candidates) are required to pay a fee of Rs 100; either by depositing the money in any branch of SBI by cash or by using net banking facility of SBI, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/State Bank of Hyderabad/ State Bank of Mysore/State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit card.
